The baby size is perfect for sleeping for a baby up to about 3 years old (so yes, it lasts a long time). After that, it can still be used for stroller walks, in the car, or on the sofa. (My 3 and a half year old boy now uses the ''medium'' size in his bed for sleeping but still takes the baby size for outings)
